Dusan Stevanovic was in rare company in 2017, becoming one of just three players brought back from the 2016 season for the newly-rebranded Orange County SC.
It was perhaps a bit surprising. Stevanovic finished the 2016 season well under Barry Venison, and his story as the player who won the open tryout that year to earn a pro contract was a nice one. But at the same time, the local product was not exactly a standout, so when he returned alongside far more seasoned players in Roy Meeus and Richard Chaplow, it was an interesting development.
Much like 2016, Stevanovic had his moments but was firmly a squad player this year under Logan Pause.
Here are Stevanovic’s statistics for 2017:

The high point of the 25-year-old’s season in 2017 came in July, when he was named to the USL Team of the Week bench after scoring a goal and an assist in a two-game week for Orange County.
Will Stevanovic be back for 2018? With another coach coming in, that’s very much up in the air at this point. According to his social media, Stevanovic is currently in Serbia working on his degree, but there’s no indication of any future soccer plans in those posts. I don’t think that means his soccer career is over, but it’s obviously smart to be young and be working on your education to keep your options open.
So we’ll see how things turn out for Dusan Stevanovic. He’s been a good squad player the last two years, able to play both midfield and forward and occasionally chipping in goals for the side. It was another solid season, but we’ll see what the future brings.
