Orange County SC announced their first goalkeeper on the 2017 roster on Wednesday, with the signing of Charlie Lyon.
A midwestern native, Lyon played collegiately at Marquette University before being drafted by the Seattle Sounders in 2015. He was on the MLS roster the last two seasons as a third-string ‘keeper, but did not play for the first team in any competitive games.
The 24-year-old did, however, play consistently for Seattle’s USL team, S2, appearing in a total of 41 games for the side the last two years.
“Charlie is a strong young goalkeeper who has both league experience and vast potential. His character fits well with our organization and team,” said Orange County SC head coach Logan Pause in a statement.
Lyon is the 11th player signed to OCSC’s roster so far, with preseason underway ahead of the March 25 season opener. Looks like the team just about has a full XI announced, although the group is a little defense-heavy at the moment. We’ll be sure to cover the other player signings as they’re announced.
