Orange County SC continued their preseason in spotless fashion on Friday with a 3-0 tune-up win over fellow USL side Phoenix Rising FC at Orange County Great Park. After Phoenix scored an own goal, Gustavo Villalobos and Jerry van Ewijk scored the goals for OCSC.
It’s the third win in three games this preseason for Orange County, with Friday’s game being the first of three against another professional side after wins over Loyola Marymount and Cal State Northridge.
All goals in the game were scored in the first half.

As ever, it’s important to remember that it’s only preseason, and while winning games, even in preseason, is a positive sign, that form may or may not translate to the regular season.
On the bright side, given the frequency of roster turnover in USL, the fact that Orange County is basically remaking the entire roster this season isn’t necessarily an indication it will be a rocky season for the club. Who knows, it could be, but it does seem like this new group is finding cohesion in the preseason, and hopefully it will carry over to the regular season, which starts Mar. 25 on the road against Reno 1868 FC.
