Orange County SC announced the signing of forward Duke Lacroix on Wednesday, pending league and federation approval. The 23-year-old joins after two seasons with NASL side Indy Eleven.
Lacroix played collegiately at Penn, picking up Ivy League Rookie of the Year and Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year honors during his time with the Quakers. The New Jersey native then signed his first pro deal with Indy in 2015, playing a total of 34 games and scoring three goals across two seasons, including the 2016 NASL Goal of the Year.
So he apparently has the ability to be extraordinary in his toolkit, although his scoring rate thus far in his pro career has not been stellar. Sometimes, however, it’s a matter of finding the right situation, and Indy did have a few scorers who were very much the main culprits for that team.
Lacroix has been with Orange County throughout the preseason, including in the friendlies. He was one of the scorers in the team’s first preseason game, a 4-0 win over Loyola Marymount.
The signing brings the roster up to 17 players for the season, so the group is starting to round out with the season opener against Reno 1868 FC less than two weeks away.
