Barcelona vs Real Madrid is arguably the most important soccer game in the world. This version of El Clasico lived up to the hype. The game had everything, great goals, great saves, a red card, back and forth action, and a late winner by Lionel Messi. Both teams are tied atop La Liga now, and though Madrid do have a game in hand, it’s setting up for an exciting finish.
Orlando City beat New York City FC 2-1 at Yankee Stadium on Sunday. Cyle Larin scored both goals for Orlando, to bring his goal scoring record to a stellar nine goals in seven games against the Blues. It was also a victory for Jason Kreis in his first return to Yankee Stadium since he was fired by NYCFC.
Chelsea beat Tottenham 4-2 in their FA Cup semifinal on Saturday, and it was another thrilling game this past soccer weekend. The game had a lot of great moments, but the best highlight was Nemanja Matic’s wonder goal to seal the game for the blues. Matic hadn’t scored all year for Chelsea, but what a time and what a way to score your first goal of the season.
The Boston Breakers are one of the few original 8 NWSL teams to have never made the playoffs. To turn that around, they will need a good season from their number 1 overall pick Rose Lavelle. So far, she seems to be delivering. SB Nation’s Lauren Barker discusses this and other news from Week 2 of NWSL.
Didier Drogba couldn’t resist getting in a shot at Arsenal ahead of the FA Cup final next month. He jokingly tweeted that he would rejoin the Blues for the game. In his time at Chelsea, Drogba scored 16 goals in just 16 games against the Gunners, and also tallied for the MLS All-Stars against Arsenal last year. I’m sure Arsenal fans will nervously check the team sheet the day of the game, just to make sure their nemesis isn’t suiting up against them one more time.
