While wins are usually what leads to recognition in USL, Orange County SC’s 405 Derby draw against LA Galaxy II garnered a couple honors for players this week.
First, defender Roy Meeus was named to the USL Team of the Week bench for Week 5. In his first start of the season, the Belgian set up the own goal that was OCSC’s tally against LA, and had a solid game at left back. It’s his first such honor of the young season.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Charlie Lyon is nominated for USL Save of the Week, one of three nominees this week, for his stop on Galaxy II’s Ethan Zubak. Like Goal of the Week, USL Save of the Week is a popular vote, and right now Lyon has some ground to make up on the leader this week, so get voting and tell your friends.
Congrats to Roy, and good luck to Charlie on the vote.
