U.S. Soccer confirmed the reports on Wednesday that a new international women’s soccer tournament was coming to the West Coast this summer, as the four-team tournament, called the Tournament of Nations, will be held in three cities in July and August.
The four teams participating will be the hosting United States, Australia, Japan and Brazil, and the tournament will kick off on July 27 in Seattle at CenturyLink Field, before going to San Diego on July 30 to play at Qualcomm Stadium. The round-robin format will conclude Aug. 3 at the StubHub Center in Carson.
Here are the games for the three dates:
- Seattle (July 27): Brazil vs. Japan; USA vs. Australia
- San Diego (July 30): Japan vs. Australia; USA vs. Brazil
- Carson (Aug. 3): Australia vs. Brazil; USA vs. Japan
Tickets for the California dates will go on sale May 19 at 10 am PT on USsoccer.com. You can find more detailed ticket information on this page.
The Tournament of Nations is the second four-team tournament hosted by the U.S. this year. The second edition of the SheBelieves Cup was held in March and on the field was not exactly a success, as the hosting Americans finished in last place behind France, Germany and England. For this new tournament, the action will take place during a FIFA international break and the four countries involved are looking to get some high level action with no more competitive games taking place this summer.
We’ll have plenty more coverage of the tournament as it approaches.
