Remember when 2018 MLS expansion team Los Angeles Football Club was linked to former Columbus Crew SC midfielder Guillermo Barros Schelotto as a coaching target? That wasn’t very long ago, and GBS is currently plying his trade in one of the most pressure-packed jobs in global soccer, as manager of Boca Juniors.
Photos began to circulate over the past several days about a visit made to Buenos Aires by the likes of Jurgen Klinsmann and Sigi Schmid, two prominent coaches currently out of work who happen to live in Southern California.

I mean, that’s not that weird, Klinsmann and Schmid are well known, GBS played for Schmid in Columbus, visits like this happen all the time, and neither Klinsmann or Schmid have any explicit connections to LAFC (for all we know, either of them could be coaching candidates for the club).
And then I saw this...
!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, this does not indicate any explicit connection between LAFC at Barros Schelotto at the weekend. I’ve been scouring the internet to find any evidence linking a person who actually works for LAFC to this trip (if you find anything, speak up!). It is entirely possible that a bunch of people from Southern California, including leadership at LAFC’s USL affiliate club, went on a trip to Buenos Aires at Barros Schelotto’s invitation and it has nothing whatsoever to do with LAFC. That’s very much possible!
But there’s a seed planted, isn’t there? Bear in mind, this is speculation, so if LAFC hire someone other than GBS, this trip probably was innocent and nothing more than a pleasant outing to watch the Superclasico for some prominent Southern California residents.
But if Barros Schelotto turns out to be LAFC’s head coach, this trip may have been significant in landing the Argentine. The current Argentine Primera season ends on May 29, just saying. Stay tuned.
