Orange County SC announce loan of Monday Bassey Etim from LAFC

Attacker is second player to go on loan from MLS expansion side.

Orange County SC announced on Friday the signing of forward/winger Monday Bassey Etim, on loan from MLS affiliate Los Angeles Football Club.

The announcement confirms Etim’s addition to both LAFC and Orange County SC, which was revealed last month when his name was included in the MLS Players Union salary figures alongside Carlos Alvarez, who has been playing on loan with OCSC all season.

Etim, 18, turns pro after playing last year at Florida’s famed Montverde Academy, which has started producing a number of pros the last couple years. The Nigerian previously played in the Kadji Sports Academy in Cameroon, which came to fame for producing star striker Samuel Eto’o.

“LAFC are excited to announce the signing of Monday Bassey Etim as we believe he is a player of incredible promise, and we know his development is in good hands with the technical staff at Orange County,” said LAFC executive vice president, soccer operations, and general manager John Thorrington in a statement.

“We are delighted to announce our second LAFC signing. Monday will give the squad a different dimension and we look forward to aiding his development,” said Orange County general manager and executive vice president, soccer operations, Oliver Wyss.

Etim is fully cleared to play for OCSC, starting with Saturday’s home opener against LA Galaxy II. The rookie comes to his first team with considerable expectations, and we’ll see if he can make a name for himself in the pro game right away.
