Orange County Soccer Club, after opening their home stadium Orange County Great Park with a 4-0 victory over cross-town rivals LA Galaxy II, has another thing to celebrate, as both Jerry van Ewijk and Wuilito Fernandes have been named to the USL Team of the Week for Week 7.
Van Ewijk, who was honored in the starting XI in the team of the week, scored a brace in the first half of Orange County’s blowout win over Galaxy II. The first came in the 28th minute when van Ewijk converted a penalty past Galaxy II keeper Eric Lopez, and the second came just three minutes later in the 31st, when Lopez came out of the box for a clearance and van Ewijk chipped him from over 30 yards out.
Fernandes entered the game in the 17th minute for Duke Lacroix, and scored in the 59th minute by faking out Lopez inside the penalty area and slotting the ball into the open net, after a great pass by van Ewijk found him open on the counter. Fernandes was named to the bench of the team of the week.
Orange County’s next game is May 13th against Tulsa Rednecks FC at ONEOK Field, where both these players will look to have repeat stellar performances.
