LAFC Slammers’ first Girls Development Academy schedule revealed

Four age groups participating in 2017-18.

Girls Development Academy crests U.S. Soccer

The schedule is out for the inaugural U.S. Soccer Girls Development Academy season. The season is set to kick off the first weekend in September 2017 and last through the first weekend of June 2018, with a nearly two-month break from November to January.

New club Los Angeles Football Club has entered the Girls Development Academy through a partnership with local powerhouse academy Slammers FC, and the LAFC Slammers academy program will be entering four age groups in the Development Academy: U-14, U-15, U-16/17 and U-18/19. The girls will be playing in the Southwest Division in all four groups, with 14 teams in those divisions.

There’s no indication yet on the schedule of where the girls’ home field will be, but the partnership website lists Sage Hill School in Newport Coast being the home for the program.

Assuming the Girls Development Academy is built like the existing boys set-up, the end of the regular season will including playoffs for the older age groups, for teams that qualify. And it looks like much like on the boys side, the girls U-14 program won’t be officially keeping track of results and standings in order to focus on development and not results for the younger groups.

So the next phase in LAFC’s history is nearing it’s start. Good luck to LAFC Slammers as they get ready for their first season.
