Guillermo Barros Schelotto has emerged as a rumored head coach target for MLS expansion team Los Angeles Football Club, and in many respects the link makes considerable sense. But a new report may put cold water on the link between the Argentine and MLS.

A report in Argentine website La Numero 12 on Tuesday quotes Boca Juniors president Daniel Angelici as saying he expects Barros Schelotto to return to the team next season. Boca are leading the Argentine Primera with three games left in the current season.

"Guillermo expressed his desire to continue and we want that,” Angelici is quoted as saying on an Argentine radio program. “I said it a month ago, without the championship, we want to continue the project, with successes and mistakes we are happy with his work. The physical trainer is in the United States getting ready for the preseason.”

Given the campaign is not yet done, one would expect Barros Schelotto would not weigh any outside offers (if he’s getting them) until the season is fully over. But if he’s planning with the president of his current club as though he’ll be staying on, then the chance of him moving to LAFC may have taken a hit.

We’ll see. This could be Boca’s president stating a fact, or it could be him publicly trying to cool the rumors or even appeal to Barros Schelotto to stay on. I wouldn’t say the GBS to LAFC rumor is dead, but it may be weaker than it was before. Stay tuned.
