How to watch Rio Grande Valley FC vs. Orange County SC

Teams meet for first in home-and-away series this week.

Orange County SC are about to embark on their many games in hand on the USL Western Conference, as they head to Texas to take on Rio Grande Valley FC for the first time in 2017 on Wednesday evening. The game is interesting too because of a scheduling quirk, with the teams playing a de facto home-and-away series, with Orange County hosting RGVFC this weekend.

RGVFC have been inconsistent this season, with much of the core of their good team from last season still on the roster, but Wilmer Cabrera moved up to coach the Houston Dynamo this season, and with more RGV players getting a chance with the MLS side, the results for the USL team have lagged a bit. They are coming off a 4-0 road loss at the weekend to Swope Park Rangers, so they’ll most likely be really up for this game. One factor that may help Orange County is that the Dynamo also play tonight, and with some key players away at the Gold Cup, a few of the Rio Grande Valley regulars could be with Houston instead.

Orange County, however, are on a four-game unbeaten streak, coming off a gritty win, but they will likely remain shorthanded, with only 17 on the matchday roster against Seattle on Sunday. Jerry van Ewijk will return from his suspension on the weekend, so this will be his last game out, while Ami Pineda is still parked from suspension for the rest of the month. Can the battered team get a good result nevertheless? Should be a good one.

One more note: This game will not be on YouTube, as it is the USL’s Game of the Week and will instead be shown on ESPN3/WatchESPN. Adjust your viewing options accordingly.

Tale of the Tape:

Orange County SC: 18 points (5-4-3), 12th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -1; Last five games: W-D-D-W-L

Rio Grande Valley FC: 20 points (6-7-2), 10th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -3; Last five games: L-W-L-L-W

How to Watch RGVFC vs. Orange County SC: The game is scheduled to kick off at 5 pm PT at H-E-B Park in Edinburg, Texas. You can watch it on ESPN3/WatchESPN.
