U.S. knocks off Costa Rica to reach the Gold Cup Final

The U.S. defeated Costa Rica 2-0 to reach the Gold Cup final. Despite this tournament being a showcase for younger talent, it was two old hats who won the game for the USMNT, Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore. Dempsey set up the first goal, making a couple good moves in the midfield before slipping a through ball in for Altidore to finish off. Dempsey then scored off of a free kick, to seal the game, and in doing so tie Landon Donovan for most goals in USMNT history at 57 goals. The U.S. will take on Jamaica on Wednesday in the Gold Cup final.

Jamaica stuns Mexico to reach Gold Cup Final vs U.S.

Jamaica beat Mexico 1-0 off a stunning free kick by Kemar Lawerence. Andre Blake was the star for Jamaica, making a few great saves to keep them in the game before the winner. This was reminiscent of 2 years ago, when Jamaica knocked off the U.S. in the semifinal. For Mexico, it’s yet another disappointment in a tournament in which they were expected to at least reach the final.

Manchester City continue to revamp their defense and sign Benjamin Mendy from Monaco

Manchester City is continuing their summer spending spree by signing full back Benjamin Mendy from AS Monaco. Mendy was a star for Monaco the past season, and City are trying to reinforce their fullbacks, which was a weak spot for them last year. For Monaco, it is another young piece that has been sold off after a year of winning Ligue 1 and making the semifinals of the Champions League. It will be interesting to see how well they can do after losing a portion of their best players.

Mike Petke puts on interesting display in postgame rant

Mike Petke had quite the performance after the RSL Sporting KC game on Saturday. Petke was ejected after yelling at the 4th official near the end of the game which finished a 1-1 draw. The extra time Petke had after he was ejected allowed him to put together a few photographs of the incidents that Petke was upset about. He had these pictures blown up, and passed out to the media during the postgame press conference. Check out the video for yourself, as Petke decided to bring visual aides to his press conference.
