Orange County SC won again this past weekend, and are now seven games unbeaten in USL regular season play. Following the latest result, a 1-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on Saturday, a new Orange County player has gotten recognition from the league, as defender Salomon Wbias was named to the USL Team of the Week bench for Week 19.

The Mexican youth international, on loan to Orange County for the season from Liga MX side Pachuca, put in another steady shift in the victory, helping the side grab their fourth clean sheet of the season. Wbias has appeared in all 15 league games this season for OC, and has been the most consistent central defender for Logan Pause’s side at the tender age of 21. Given the suspensions and injuries on the squad this season, Wbias’ steady play and stamina has been a big asset to the team.

And not to sound like sour grapes here, but even with the Team of the Week bench recognition, it’s worth noting no OC player has been named to the USL Team of the Week XI since May 23. In other words, in their seven-game unbeaten run, no player has been deemed one of the 11 best players in the league that week. To be fair, the load has been shared around the field, and there are 30 team in USL, making competition very strong. Still, seems like the general overlooking of Orange County SC continues in spite of their form, among the very best in the league at the moment.
