Orange County SC have a vital game on Saturday evening, way out east in Kansas City as they face Swope Park Rangers at 5:30 pm PT. It’s the first meeting for these teams this season, and it may not be entirely accurate to call this game a “must-win” for OC, but it may not be far off.
At the moment, Orange County’s still got one to four games in hand on the rest of the Western Conference, but they sit one spot outside of the playoff places with a three-point gap ahead of this weekend’s action. If they lose tonight, that gap will likely increase, and they’ll have ground to make up if they want to qualify for the postseason.
Bear in mind, too, that while Swope Park Rangers have been somewhat more inconsistent this season and some of their key contributors from last season are gone, they are in third place in the West right now and retain some of their key pieces from last year. Kharlton Belmar is leading the team in scoring, and Mark Anthony Gonzalez continues to be a danger every time he’s on the field.
So this is going to be a tough game for Orange County, and they’re already coming off a bad loss on Tuesday, at home, when they looked gassed for much of the game. Can they find another wind and get their mojo back? It’s crunch time for OC.
Tale of the Tape:
Orange County SC: 26 points (7-6-5), 9th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -1; Last five games: L-D-L-W-W
Swope Park Rangers: 39 points (12-5-3), 3rd place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: +12; Last five games: D-L-W-W-W
