Orange County SC continued an unfortunate pattern as they conceded early on Saturday, but they battled back with a second-half equalizer to tie Swope Park Rangers 1-1 on the road.
The hosts opened the scoring four minutes in, courtesy of a defensive breakdown and goal by Kharlton Belmar.
Adrian Zendejas made a big save in the 24th minute when Orange County had a great look at the far post, but the SPR goalkeeper smothered the chance.
Zach Kobayashi tied the game up in the 52nd minute, with a nice bloop shot to beat Zendejas.
The Orange County performance was gritty and rather impressive considering the squad is at its thinnest point of the season and they were coming off a bad loss, were on the road in this game, and against one of the better teams in the Western Conference. They’ll need more than draws to ensure playoff qualification, but in the context of a long season, this is definitely a good result.
Orange County will again have a quick turnaround, as they’ll open their new stadium on Tuesday with a game against Tulsa Roughnecks, who they lost to on the road earlier this season. It’ll be another crucial game in a long run of them for OC, but Saturday’s result can give them momentum to get through the second half of this very busy month.
