Orange County SC will look to return to winning ways and inaugurate their new, permanent home in style on Tuesday night, as they host Tulsa Roughnecks at Championship Soccer Stadium at Orange County Great Park.
The teams are meeting for the second time this season, with OC getting blasted 4-0 in the first match, on the road back in May. Juan Pablo Caffa and Ian Svantesson scored early and often on OC in that game, although Caffa may not be available for this match after picking up an injury of some sort at the weekend. You never want to see players get hurt, but missing the Argentine playmaker could be a boost for Orange County.
Aside from the new digs, which look incredible, Orange County are in need of wins to get back above the playoff line. They sit five points behind Tulsa, who are in 7th, at the moment, and two points from OKC Energy, who are in the final playoff spot. That means if OC win this game, they’ll vault back above the line and into 8th.
The question, however, is if Orange County will have the legs and the personnel to get a win. They’ve faltered in recent weeks, but the volume of games is really starting to wear on them and it’s little surprise they’ve struggled. In spite of that, they have to play the schedule put out in front of them, and if they can defend stoutly and get the goal or two needed to take three points, hopefully with a player stepping up like Zach Kobayashi did in their draw on the weekend, then they’ll still be in solid shape. If not, they’re going to still have a shot at the playoffs, but their margin for error will become smaller and smaller.
Tale of the Tape:
Orange County SC: 27 points (7-6-6), 9th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -1; Last five games: D-L-D-L-W
Swope Park Rangers: 32 points (10-9-2), 7th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: 0; Last five games: W-W-L-D-W
