Orange County SC are the most rested they have been in weeks, and have a major game on Friday night, as they host OKC Energy FC at Orange County Great Park at 7:30 pm PT.
The teams, which met once this season in Oklahoma City in what was a 1-0 Energy FC win against 10-man OC, are a point apart in the Western Conference standings, with OKC sitting in the final playoff spot and Orange County two spots below them. There is still a lot of soccer to be played this season, but given Orange County’s five-game winless streak, this is as close to a must-win game as we’ve seen so far this season, and could be a turning point one way or the other come season’s end.
On the flip side of OC’s winless run is OKC’s road form this season, where they’ve only won one game. If they manage to win in Irvine tonight, that could be a severe blow to Orange County’s playoff hopes, but their inability to get results away from home should rightly give OC life in picking up three points in one match.
Richard Chaplow is suspended for this game for yellow card accumulation, the first OC player of the season to pick up an accumulation ban, believe it or not.
So will Orange County win their first game in their brand-new home? Will the sledding continue to be rough in a very busy month for the club? We’ll find out tonight.
Tale of the Tape:
Orange County SC: 29 points (7-6-8), 10th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -1; Last five games: D-D-D-L-D
OKC Energy FC: 30 points (8-9-6), 8th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -3; Last five games: D-L-W-W-D
