Real Sociedad’s second game of the new La Liga season was on Friday, and they made it two wins in two, beating Villarreal 3-0 at home. Goals came in the first half, courtesy of Willian Jose (25th minute), Xabi Prieto (34th minute) and Juanmi (45th minute).

Of local interest, Los Angeles Football Club forward Carlos Vela, on loan at La Real until the end of the year, came off the bench for the second week running, playing the final 24 minutes for the winning side.

He did not score or set up a goal in his time on the field this week, in slight contrast to his influential shift last week, but with Real Sociedad winning 3-0 the primary aim was to ensure they saw the win out, and in that respect, mission accomplished. Vela did have two shots on goal, with both saved.

From the earlygoing, it looks like Real Sociedad head coach Eusebio Sancristan is opting to use Vela as one of his main bench options in the first half of the season. Considering he’s been pretty good in spelling the starters so far, it’s likely to continue in the weeks to come until injuries or fixture congestion crop up.

Vela next goes on international duty for Mexico, with Real Sociedad off until Sept. 10.
