We know that Barcelona have all the money they need at this point, having sold Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for a shocking $268 million. Now it looks like they are ready to spend some of that money, and having been linked to Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, reports now suggest Barcelona have a deal with Liverpool in principle to buy one star Brazilian to replace another. The reported fee is €90 million (£81.6m) with bonuses that could bring the deal to €120m (£108.8m), so Liverpool is definitely getting cash that can be invested elsewhere with ease, but club legend Jamie Carragher is now on the record saying that there will be riots if Liverpool sell their best player. One thing that may not sit well with Liverpool fans is the report that Coutinho asked Klopp to leave, but this may be a move we can only judge after Liverpool replaces him.
Reports suggest that through the Neymar transfer, Paris Saint-Germain have been in talks trying to sign Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe. Despite having spent an astronomical amount of cash on Neymar, PSG now want to sign Europe’s newest wonderkid from their Ligue 1 rivals, hoping to beat out Real Madrid for the Frenchman’s signature. Goal reported in June they offered €135 million for him, and now report that they have contacted Mbappe to say they still want him after the Neymar signing. First of all, imagine the attacking force of PSG with Neymar and Mbappe, but now imagine what it must feel like to be Angel Di Maria. And how much money is going to have to be spent for both those superstars.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has said he will not sell Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the top two players in the world, if he was offered Ronaldo’s weight in gold. Ronaldo was linked with a move away from Madrid, especially amid being charged with tax fraud, but the rumors of an earth-shattering transfer (for someone not named Neymar) have cooled off significantly, and the chances of a move away from Madrid seem all but gone now.
Southampton star Virgil van Dijk has submitted an official transfer request as he looks to move on to a new challenge. In a statement, van Dijk said he feels “insulted“ and made clear his desire to leave, but that Southampton rebuffed offers from top clubs and told him he could not train with the team. Now, both Chelsea and Liverpool are ready to fight for his signature, and add one of the top center backs in the league.
