Los Angeles Football Club forward Carlos Vela has been called up to the Mexican national team ahead of its friendly with Bosnia-Herzegovina, on Jan. 31 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Vela is looking to make his 65th appearance with El Tri and will be joined by LA Galaxy midfielders – and brothers – Giovani and Jonathan dos Santos.

Vela has made 45 starts for El Tri but was used as a substitute in their last five games – including CONCACAF World Cup qualification. He scored once in a 3-2 loss to Honduras in the group stage on Oct. 11 and did see minutes in their last two friendlies – against Belgium and Poland.
There is no guarantee, but provided he stays healthy Vela is expected to be called up to the Mexican National Team for the World Cup this summer in Russia. He was part of the squad that played in the Confederations Cup in 2017, also in Russia.
