For a brief spell this weekend, Los Angeles Football Club’s social media channels looked oddly like those of Atlanta United.
That’s only because following the Los Angeles Rams’ 26-13 loss at Atlanta on Saturday in the NFL playoffs, LAFC followed through with a bet it made with the staff of United last week:
Hey @ATLUTD, let’s bet on #ATLvsLA
— LAFC (@LAFC) January 7, 2018
Loser reps the winner’s colors.
Let’s go @RamsNFL
That set off a Twitter storm from Atlanta after the Falcons’ win.
Looking forward to seeing you in red, black and gold, @LAFC

Well done, @AtlantaFalcons! #RiseUp pic.twitter.com/KM9xt0BPFK
They will look good in black and red

But, to their credit, LAFC didn’t welch on the bet.

This seemingly innocent social media battle could turn into something different when the season gets underway. LAFC will travel to Atlanta to face United for the first time on April 7. And with many comparing Atlanta United’s smashing success in their debut campaign with LAFC’s ambitions to be a game-changing team, it should be a fascinating game, both on and off the field.
A budding cross-country rivalry perhaps???
