MLS announced on Tuesday that Los Angeles Football Club forward Carlos Vela was voted MLS Player of the Week for Week 33 of the 2018 MLS regular season, after posting a two-goal, two-assist performance in a 4-2 home win over the Houston Dynamo on Friday.
Vela received the honor after it was voted upon in the weekly poll by the North American Soccer Reporters (full disclosure, I am a member and vote in the polls regularly). He received 43 points, more than double his closest competitor, and 20 first-place votes, more than the rest of the field combined.
✌️ goals.

✌️ assists.
No one was better in Week 33 than @11carlosV! // @alcatelmobileus https://t.co/NdxgdBsF0Z
The captain is the third LAFC player to win MLS Player of the Week, alongside Diego Rossi in Week 2, and Adama Diomande in Week 18. In terms of pure production, only Rossi’s POTW-worthy performance surpassed Vela’s this season, as the Uruguayan was involved in five goals in that game, to Vela’s four for the Houston win.
All in all, it was a good week for Vela and LAFC on the field, but attention turns to the next game, at home on Sunday against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Congrats to Carlos on the honor.
