Despite already clinching a playoff spot, the last game of the season is a massive one for Los Angeles Football Club. They square off against Sporting Kansas City for the top spot in the Western Conference.
Sporting KC sits in the first-place spot right now with 59 points, while LAFC is 2nd with 57. FC Dallas also has 57 points, but LAFC is ahead of them on goal differential.
The teams have squared off once already this year, and Sporting was the team that ended LAFC’s home unbeaten streak, defeating them 2-0 back in August.
Sporting KC is very hard to beat at home, and they are coming off a standout win over FC Dallas last weekend, which knocked Dallas from 1st down to 3rd.
Sporting KC appears to be firing on all cylinders, with Felipe Gutierrez back in the mix after a long-term injury, and Johnny Russell playing incredibly well in an attacking role for the team.
Tim Melia is still a stellar goalkeeper, and Ike Opara and Matt Besler make one of the better center back pairings in the league.
LAFC will be under pressure from KC at home, and weathering the storm in the first 10 mins or so of the game will be key.
LAFC also had a familiar issue of giving up a lead in their last game, settling for a 2-2 draw after being up 2-0 over Vancouver.
If they are lucky (or good) enough to get out to a lead in this game, the defending and ball control must be top notch to get a result against Sporting KC.
Prediction: LAFC 2, Sporting KC 2. This game lives up to the hype, and ultimately finishes in a draw 2-2. Carlos Vela scores in this final regular season game.
Bonus Prediction: LAFC finishes 3rd in the West. FC Dallas beats Colorado to jump back to the top of the standings, and the draw pushes Sporting KC and LAFC down one spot each.
