The list, voted by MLSsoccer.com staff, select technical staffers around the league and some media personalities (full disclosure: I was a voter this year, as I’ve been in years past), named Alphonso Davies No. 1 for 2018, ahead of his move to Bayern Munich in January.
Rossi, 20, scored the first competitive goal in LAFC history, after joining in the offseason from Uruguayan giant Peñarol as a young Designated Player. To date, he’s scored 10 goals and eight assists in 28 league appearances, and has also scored five goals in the U.S. Open Cup during their run to the semifinal of that competition, finishing joint-second in scoring in that tournament.
Rossi joins LAFC teammates Latif Blessing (No. 11), Andre Horta (No. 13) and Eduard Atuesta (No. 16) on the 2018 “22 Under 22.” For all of the big names and MLS experience on LAFC’s roster, they have an impressive cadre of youngsters who are contributing now, and a few more who may be ready to make an impact very soon. Congrats to all of them on the honor, and to Diego for cracking the Top 10 young players in MLS.
