Orange County SC will close out their regular-season home slate on Saturday night, as they host Seattle Sounders 2 at Orange County Great Park, with work still to be done to try and clinch the No. 1 seed in the USL Western Conference.
These teams met several weeks back in a game that ended in a 1-1 draw in Tacoma, a game where both teams had chances but OC may have been a bit fortunate to get a result. Since then, they’ve had some close calls but have been on a roll, moving up to the top spot in the west, booking a playoff ticket and home playoff game, and seeming like they can take any game, no matter the circumstances.
S2 are well out of any contention at this stage, in second-to-last place in the conference, but they also have nothing to lose. Maybe playing their uber-young lineup with no pressure will give Orange County a stiff test. Or maybe Orange County will roll, as they’ve mostly done this year. We’ll find out when the game comes around.
Tale of the Tape:
Orange County SC: 63 points (19-7-6), 1st place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: +31; Last five games: W-W-W-W-D
Seattle Sounders 2: 21 points (5-20-6), 16th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -33; Last five games: D-L-L-L-L
