MLS revealed the 2018 MLS Best XI on Sunday, and one Los Angeles Football Club player, Carlos Vela, was among those honored.
Vela, 29, scored 14 goals and 13 assists in 28 MLS regular-season appearances this season, his first with LAFC. He also notched an assist in his lone playoff game to date, and also helped his club make a run to the U.S. Open Cup semifinal. Plus, he played in the World Cup this summer for Mexico, scoring a goal in the team’s run to the knockout rounds.
Vela is one of the highest-paid players in MLS this year, but his production was clearly worth it, as he led the expansion team to the playoffs, just the fifth MLS expansion team to do that all-time, and he notched a relatively unusual “double-double” season in goals and assists.
Clearly, this is LAFC’s first-ever MLS Best XI selection. Congrats to Carlos!
