It may be hard to believe, but Angels on Parade was launched way back in April 2011. That’s right, seven years, eight seasons, and we’re still going strong.
Stronger than ever, really. It’s no exaggeration to say this was our best year ever.
First, LAFC finally started play! We waited three and a half years for this, and those who stuck around to read the site in those days know it got pretty lean at times. The first season was terrific, too, between seeing the first games, the first goal, the first home game (what an experience!), the first hat trick, the first U.S. Open Cup run, clinching that first playoff berth, and the first playoff game, at home to boot. Some of you are still smarting from the abrupt ending to the season, but in our experience, this was the best MLS team we’ve ever covered, and we’re hopeful this is the foundation for bigger things in the near future.
Next, Orange County SC had their best season ever. Reaching the Western Conference final, the USL outfit had a terrific roster that was strong throughout and a tough as nails attitude that led to a stellar season, both at home and on the road. It was fun to watch this team play, and knowing they were in every game they played made it a pleasure to cover them. If you’ve been sleeping on OCSC, you should fire up ESPN+ or better, make it out to Orange County Great Park and see a game in person, in 2019.
On a personal note, I’d like to thank the Angels on Parade staff for their hard work this year. That starts with our regular contributors Ryan Goodwin, Patrick Stoll and M.A. Clark, who have worked tirelessly this whole year, and two of them got to see LAFC on the road this season. They’ve been a huge asset to the site, and their work is always appreciated.
Thanks as well to our friends at Orange & Black SoccerCast, whose arrival has helped expand the coverage of Orange County SC substantially. Ray and Dylan are doing a fantastic job, and we’re happy to support their show.
Francisco Padilla and Carson Merk have also featured on the site this year, and thanks to them for their contributions.
A shoutout to SB Nation, and our brethren MLS sites in particular. So many folks around the network supported our site during the quiet days and offered congratulations with LAFC arriving this year. Thanks for that, to all who gave that support along the way.
Finally, thanks to you, the reader. We seriously wouldn’t be here if no one read our work, if no one engaged, if no one shared. We’re thrilled to have had a chance to meet a whole new audience this year, and we hope we keep you coming back. Please tell your fellow LAFC and Orange County SC or general soccer fans about us — the more people read, the more we can do in the future on this site.
