Carlos Vela wins our Los Angeles Football Club Attacker of the Year poll for the 2018 season, with 63 percent of the vote, and really it’s no surprise.
Despite missing time in the middle of the year for the World Cup, Vela lead the team in both goals (14) and assists (13) in the regular season.
The face of the franchise and eventual captain was LAFC’s first designated player, and from the beginning he embraced being the face of LAFC.
Off the field he represented the team well, and on the field, well, the results spoke for themselves.
Besides leading in both statistical categories, Vela produced a number of highlight reel goals, like his first goal against the Galaxy, the goal against Portland, and strikes against Vancouver and Toronto FC.
He also converted the penalty that secured a point for LAFC in the 3rd El Trafico matchup of the season.
Vela played like a league MVP this year, and without the World Cup to take time away next season, expect him to be even better in 2019. Congratulations, Carlos.
