U.S. Soccer announced on Thursday the pre-Women’s World Cup slate for the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2019, and the defending World Cup champions are coming to Los Angeles for a tune-up.
Los Angeles Football Club’s home, Banc of California Stadium, will host a friendly on April 7 against Belgium. The friendly comes in the middle of a slate dubbed “Countdown to the Cup,” ahead of the World Cup in France.
Belgium will be a new opponent for the USWNT. Belgium hasn’t been a women’s soccer powerhouse, but they fell just short of qualifying for next year’s World Cup, as they went to the playoff in UEFA, but only one of the four teams in the playoff qualified, and they lost to Switzerland in the playoff semifinal.
If you want tickets for this match, U.S. Soccer members will get the first crack on Dec. 10, followed by LAFC members on Dec. 11. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Dec. 13, on USsoccer.com.
The Banc will also host international soccer in the Concacaf Gold Cup in 2019, when they’ll host a Group C doubleheader on June 25. But the headliner of that group will be Honduras, a team to be respected to be sure, but maybe not the primary team of most soccer fans in the area. No matter, in addition to LAFC games, The Banc will have international soccer in 2019 as well!
