Some observations:

  • On the injury front, Omar Gaber and Luis Lopez have not played a minute, which is not surprising since both have announced injuries. Laurent Ciman has also been dealing with an unspecified injury and has not played the last two games, and Aaron Kovar appears to also be dealing with an injury.
  • Ciman’s absence means the third center back on the roster, Dejan Jakovic, has been getting a lot of minutes so far in preseason. It appears Joao Moutinho and Tristan Blackmon may have been tried at CB as well, but it is somewhat concerning if Ciman’s injury lingers into the season that Jakovic may be the starter against the Sounders.
  • Quillan Roberts was present in LAFC’s training camp videos as of last week, so he is presumably still on trial, but Tyler Miller has played five consecutive halves as starter and looks certain to be the starter to begin the season with Lopez out.
  • Trialists who have played include Maurice Edu (since departed), Jordan Jones (not offered a contract), Bryan de la Fuente (since departed), Shaft Brewer, Jr., Nico Czornomaz, Pol Calvet Planellas (not offered a contract) and most recently, James Murphy. Murphy is a 20-year-old New Jersey native who is on English Championship team Sheffield Wednesday, but who does not appear to be getting any playing time. Unfortunately, he only lasted five minutes in Sunday’s draw against Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
  • Among the trialists, Czornomaz is the only one to have played in all three games. That’s not to say the Argentine midfielder is definitely going to be signed, but there does appear to be some interest on LAFC’s end. The international slot needed may be a big sticking point, however, especially if LAFC sign another international midfielder, as expected.
