MLS and Liga MX to battle for Campeones Cup as part of new partnership

Major League Soccer and Liga MX have developed a strategic partnership to try and help North American leagues’ standing in the world of soccer. The champions of each league will face off on September 19 in the inaugural Campeones Cup, which will take place in Toronto this year. Toronto FC await the winner of Liga MX’s Campeon de Campeones in July, which will put Tigres against the winner of the ongoing season (using a winter champion vs. spring champion format). MLS Commissioner Don Garber said, “it’s almost like a continental Super Bowl.“

The partnership will also include collaboration in business and social practices, including a future all-star game between the two leagues.

NYCFC’s Patrick Vieira admits he would love to manage Arsenal one day, but not to succeed Arsene Wenger

New York City FC manager Patrick Vieira has admitted that although he would not want to succeed Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager, he would one day love to manage the Gunners.

“Let’s say that some day it might interest me. But one day,” Vieira told French newspaper L’Equipe.

“I cannot say anything more because there is nothing to say about it and I do not want to offend Arsene, whom I adore and for whom I have a lot of respect.”

“Because I know that he suffers a lot from the current results, even more than hearing what his former players say.”

Vieira played for Arsenal from 1996 to 2005, and has been manager of NYCFC since 2015.

Manchester United issue David De Gea Message to Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho has told Real Madrid that their time would be better spent pursuing a player other than David De Gea. There are reports that Real Madrid want to take another crack at signing the Spanish Keeper, who is in the form of his life at Manchester United. De Gea also has just 18 months left on his contract at United, which he signed in 2015 after a Madrid fax machine did not work on transfer deadline day, which otherwise would have seen him move to the Spanish capital.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang frustrated at absence during Europa League

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has expressed his frustration that he is cup-tied for the Europa League, keeping him out of a crucial competition for Arsenal’s season.

“I am really frustrated because the rules are a bit... I don’t know how to say in English but I am disappointed because I can’t help my team,” Aubameyang said.

“When I was in Dortmund, I was playing every three days but now I play once a week or have a long time between games. It is not easy... that’s life. I have to deal with it.”

Since moving from Dortmund, Aubameyang has three goals in five starts, but has had to watch his team in the Round of 16 in the Europa League take on another former team of his, AC Milan.
