Los Angeles Football Club defender and captain Laurent Ciman has been called up by the Belgian national team to take part in its friendly with Saudi Arabia.

The 32-year-old Ciman has made 19 appearances for the Red Devils since his inaugural match – a 2-1 win over Bulgaria in May 2010.

He picked up his first international assist with the senior squad in a 2-0 win at Austria in the group stages of the 2011 European qualifiers. After 2011, Ciman next played in a 2-2 friendly win against Australia in 2014.

Ciman returned to the national team in 2016 and played in a pair of friendlies – a 2-1 win at Switzerland and a 3-2 win against Norway. He was also capped in a 2-0 loss against Italy in the Euro 2016 group stages. Later that year, Ciman played in four of Belgium’s World Cup qualifying matches.

Since then he has played in a 4-0 World Cup qualifying win against Cyprus and a 3-3 tie with Mexico.

In all, Ciman has been listed on the national team squad for 63 matches, starting in 14 of those while being subbed in five.

Ciman being called up makes six LAFC players who have been called up to their respective international teams during this break. Carlos Vela (Mexico), Mark Anthony-Kaye (Canada), Dejan Jakovic (Canada), Omar Gaber (Egypt) and Marco Urena (Costa Rica) will be on the roster of their respective national teams.
