Carlos Vela nominated for MLS Goal of the Week

But um, he’s got very stiff competition.

MLS: Los Angeles FC at Los Angeles Galaxy Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

In pretty much any other week, Carlos Vela’s beautiful strike to open up Los Angeles Football Club’s game against the LA Galaxy on Saturday would be a nailed on MLS Goal of the Week winner.

As it stands, Vela is nominated for MLS Goal of the Week for Week 5, and it’s a damn fine goal, a great one even. You can go vote for it right here.

But...he’s going to need some help. Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored a special debut goal in MLS. It hurts to write that as it came against LAFC, but objectively it’s a Top 5 goal in MLS history, not going to lie.

So we’ll see how the vote goes, but Zlatan has a very, very healthy lead already. The vote runs through midnight on Wednesday, and again, you can vote for it right here.

All in all, Carlos, you had a really nice goal. Congrats on the nomination.
