Orange County SC return from their weekend off with another midweek encounter on the road, this time in Texas to take on Rio Grande Valley FC for the first time this season.
The Wednesday-night clash will feature two teams in very different form. OC sit in second place in the Western Conference, on the longest current winning streak in the league, at four games, and will face an RGVFC side that is winless in five to start the campaign and sitting in second-to-last place in the West.
So on paper, Orange County look like huge favorites, even with the game being on the road. That said, this feels like a classic banana skin game. If OCSC feel just a little too comfy with their position, it could open the door for RGVFC to finally post a win. And all of their games have been close this year, with the last three games being one-goal losses, as they’ve scored five goals in those games. So while the hosts may be down, they’re most likely going to be up for the challenge.
Orange County have no suspensions for this game, while RGVFC will be missing midfielder Matias Zaldivar, who had started every game so far this season. It’s going to be an interesting game to see if Orange County can hold up their good run, or if they’ll find a roadblock away from home before Saturday’s home game against Colorado Springs.
Tale of the Tape:
Orange County SC: 13 points (4-1-1), 2nd place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: +11; Last five games: W-W-W-W-L
Rio Grande Valley FC: 2 points (0-3-2), 16th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -3; Last five games: L-L-L-D-D
