Unbelievable! LAFC 1, Seattle Sounders 0

Laurent Ciman is the hero at the death.

MLS: Los Angeles FC at Montreal Impact Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

Laurent Ciman scored a free kick at the death, as Los Angeles Football Club opened Banc of California Stadium with a 1-0 win that capped off a terrific evening for the club.

The game itself wasn’t exactly scintillating, and the teams were even throughout, and it appeared it would end 0-0 for the first time in LAFC’s short history. But instead, after a first half in which LAFC struggled to put together any real volume of chances, in the second half, they turned it on but looked like they would fall just short.

Instead, there was a final foul in second-half stoppage time, from a good area, and LAFC had what was likely to be one last good chance on the night. Up stepped Ciman, who buried his second free kick goal in two weeks, after previously scoring just three times in his MLS regular season career. And it capped off a night where the BOC crowd was looking for a goal to celebrate in style. Believe it or not, Ciman delivered.

As you would expect, Ciman was named Man of the Match in the stadium, and LAFC notched their second-ever shutout, both against Seattle Sounders.

What a night. I think all of the 22,000 in attendance (who are not Sounders fans) are happy to see the game end with a win, even if it took last-minute heroics to get it done. Well done, LAFC.

The team is back in action again on Saturday, as they’ll host their second game, against FC Dallas. For now, let’s soak in the moment of an incredible win for LAFC.
