Orange County SC will aim to extend their winning streak and win their first home game of the 2018 USL regular season, with the first edition of the 405 Derby on Saturday night in Irvine.
OC are coming off a sparkling week, in which they grabbed maximum points from two games in Oklahoma, thoroughly outplaying OKC Energy FC en route to a 1-0 win on Wednesday, followed by a 5-0 rout of 9-man Tulsa Roughnecks FC. Forward Thomas Enevoldsen scored four goals in the two games, and was USL Player of the Week for his efforts.
They’ll face an LA Galaxy II team that is off to a subdued start. Once again going in heavy to blood youngsters, Mike Munoz’s squad is seeking their first win of the season, but they are coming off a scoreless draw at home last weekend against San Antonio FC, one of the better teams in the league last year.
Even though LA’s offense hasn’t really gotten going, their defense has been stout so far this year, giving up a goal a game on average through three. Orange County will look to keep doing what they did in Oklahoma and dominate play, seeking to score early and often to break their opponent’s will.
Since it’s a rivalry game, you never quite know how things will go. But based on form, OC will be the favorite on paper and will want to keep their winning ways going. We’ll see if they can do it.
Tale of the Tape:
Orange County SC: 7 points (2-1-1), 2nd place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: +5; Last four games: W-W-L-D
LA Galaxy II: 2 points (0-1-2), 15th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -2; Last three games: D-D-L
