LAFC waive forward Rodrigo Pacheco

Argentine a victim of international roster slot logjam.

MLS: 2018 Portraits USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Football Club very quietly announced this week they have waived forward Rodrigo Pacheco.

The 21-year-old made one appearance for LAFC, off the bench to play 17 minutes on April 7 in LAFC’s loss at Atlanta United.

Pacheco, signed last year on loan from Argentine club Lanús, was loaned out to Orange County SC last year, where he made seven appearances in the league, scoring a goal and an assist for LAFC’s USL affiliate.

The primary reason for this move is obvious: Pacheco takes up an international roster slot for LAFC, and the team is over their complement right now. Another Argentine, Nico Czornomaz, was loaned out to Orange County SC, and teams are only allowed one international player loan per season to clear a slot.

With the signing of Adama Diomandé, LAFC need to clear another international slot to add him to the roster, and Pacheco had to make way.

So we’ll see what happens to Pacheco. He didn’t get much playing time for LAFC, so hard to see him staying in the U.S., but you never know. Best of luck to him.
