Los Angeles Football Club winger Shaft Brewer has been called up to the U.S. Men’s National Team U-20 squad for a pair of friendlies in Honduras.

The latest training camp will start in Florida for six days and end with two matches against Los Catrachos May 17 and 19. In total, 21 players have been called up for this training camp.

“I am encouraged by the start of this group,” U-20 Men’s National Team head coach Tab Ramos said on USsoccer.com. “Their effort and confidence displayed during our trip to Spain was impressive, especially considering that our two games against France were very difficult. Some players on this roster going to Honduras have very little or no international experience and with World Cup Qualifying fast approaching, we are looking forward to providing valuable challenges to this U-20 Men’s National Team. Honduras was the runner-up in last year’s Concacaf U-20 Championship and will again be one of the strongest teams looking to secure a place in next year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland. Playing against them on their home field will allow our players and team to grow on and off the field.”

It will be the first time the USMNT has faced Honduras since the finals of the 2017 Concacaf U-20 Championship where the United States topped the Hondurans in penalty kicks.

Brewer was acquired by LAFC from FC Dallas for a fourth-round selection in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft and $50,000 in General Allocation Money.

He has yet to appear for the Black-and-Gold in a match, but internationally Brewer helped lead the U.S. U-18 squad to the Vaclav Jezek Tournament title in the Czech Republic. Before his most recent call-up, Brewer also participated in a U-20 training camp in March in preparation for matches in France and Spain.

Before joining LAFC, Brewer played in three matches for RB Leipzig’s U-19 squad, logging a goal in a win against Osnabruck U-19 in November 2017.

He played academy football for both FC Dallas and Sacramento Republic FC.
