Orange County SC are back in action on Saturday night, at home against Saint Louis FC. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm PT at Orange County Great Park.
OC are in a bit of a rut at the moment, having lost two of their last three, including a last-minute road loss in a chess match last weekend against Real Monarchs. That said, they haven’t been playing badly lately, and just need a good commanding win to bring confidence up again.
Saint Louis FC, meanwhile, are in their latest rebuilding project this year, with new coach Anthony Pulis taking charge and so far, so good, as the team has only lost two games in nine to open the season. And with St. Louis sitting just three points behind Orange County, there’s the potential for this to be an early-season “six pointer” for the playoff chase.
These teams met only once before, in 2016, when the then-OC Blues hosted Saint Louis at Anteater Stadium and the visitors came out 3-1 winners. Considering OC have gotten a new owner and rebrand and I would hazard a guess neither team has any players still around from that 2016 game, the series history probably doesn’t matter much here. But considering Saint Louis appear to be shedding their tag as an underachieving side on the field this year, this could be another tricky game for Orange County.
Tale of the Tape:
Orange County SC: 16 points (5-3-1), 4th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: +9; Last five games: L-W-L-W-W
Saint Louis FC: 13 points (3-2-4), 7th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -1; Last five games: L-D-D-W-W
