Countries headed to the World Cup have to release their preliminary World Cup rosters by this Monday, and over the weekend, Egypt National Team boss Hector Cuper released his provisional squad for Russia 2018. As expected, Los Angeles Football Club defender/midfielder Omar Gaber has been included in the 29-man provisional roster.

Gaber, 26, was expected to be included on the World Cup roster for The Pharoahs, and while Cuper still needs to make six cuts to make the final 23-man roster, barring injury it seems pretty likely Gaber will be on the plane to Russia.
For LAFC, this means Gaber will almost certainly miss four league games (May 26 vs. D.C. United, June 2 at FC Dallas, June 9 at San Jose Earthquakes, June 23 vs. Columbus Crew SC), and that could be more depending on when he’s called away by Egypt and how deep the nation goes in the World Cup.
Still, it’s exciting to see Gaber get the call, and fingers crossed he makes the final cut and gets to realize a lifelong dream. Congrats to him.
