Orange County SC enter the 2018 U.S. Open Cup looking to make another run in the knockout tournament this year. After several years of futility in the United States’ oldest soccer competition, last year they finally made a mini-run, making it to the MLS round where they eventually lost to the LA Galaxy.

This year, they kick off their Open Cup in the same way they began it last year, against local PDL side FC Golden State Force. While last year’s game between the teams ended in a 5-2 road win for OCSC at Citrus College, this year the game will be played at Orange County’s home at Orange County Great Park, and you can never take local opposition lightly, even if they come from a lower level — something Orange County knows all too well from the past.

Golden State Force have just kicked off their PDL season this month, and have two players with ties to Orange County — attacker Gustavo Villalobos played on Orange County SC last year, and goalkeeper Pepe Miranda played for the OC Blues 2014-15.

The side is off to a perfect 3-0-0 start to their PDL season, and beat LA Wolves FC 3-1 in the opening round of the Open Cup last week. Again, they shouldn’t be taken lightly here.

That said, Orange County ought to win this game, as long as they are focused, and don’t walk in thinking they will cruise to victory. Should be a good game if both teams are up for it.

How to Watch Orange County SC vs. FC Golden State Force:

The only guaranteed way to watch the game is to go to Championship Soccer Stadium at Orange County Great Park in Irvine and go to the game in person. Angels on Parade has reached out to see if there will be a stream for the game, and thus far, no answer. Worth noting that the equivalent game last year was not streamed, although in that case that venue was not accustomed to streaming games — unclear if OCSC will stream this round’s game or not. We’ll update this story if/when we get word one way or the other.

Update: The game will be streamed, and you can find the stream page here.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm PT.
