After their four-game home streak with the opening of Banc of California stadium, LAFC go back out on the road, though as far as MLS goes it’s not a long trip, from LA to Portland.
The Timbers had an uneven start to the season, but they seemed to have picked things up, and they are coming off a win against their hated rivals, the Sounders.
Portland has been particularly strong on defense, not allowing a goal in three straight games, as they are on a four-game winning streak, best in MLS.
Part of this can be attributed to the return of Diego Chara. Chara missed a lot of the early season with injury, and the Timbers are simply not the same team without him.
On the offensive end, Diego Valeri isn’t putting up the numbers like he did in his MVP season last year, but he is still the heart of the Timbers offense. He and Sebastian Blanco are the real danger men LAFC need to keep an eye on.
Portland has one of the best home field advantages in all of MLS. If LAFC can weather the storm early, or even grab an away goal, it will go a long way to quieting the crowd and not feeling like they will be under siege all game.
Prediction: Timbers 2, LAFC 1. LAFC drops a hard-fought close game, Latif Blessing gets the goal for the away team.
