Chelsea defeated Manchester United 1-0 to win the FA Cup. Eden Hazard got the only goal, winning and converting a penalty kick after he took a ball through on goal and was brought down in the box by Phil Jones. Hazard sent David De Gea the wrong way to score what turned out to be the winning goal. Manchester United put on more pressure in the second half, but were unable to breakdown Chelsea’s defense. This was a good way for the Blues to end the season, with this being their only trophy this year. Speculation is still leaning toward Antonio Conte not returning, and if that’s the case, this will be a nice way for him to go out.
Inter Milan came back and won 3-2 late at Lazio to secure a return to the Champions League. This game was effectively a Champions League playoff, and it was all set up for Lazio intitially, all they needed was a draw, they were at home, and they took a 2-1 lead into half time. But then it all fell apart for Lazio, Mauro Icardi drew and then won a penalty, and then late on Matias Veccino scored to give Inter a win and the Champions League spot.
This weekend was when quite a few soccer legends played their last games for their clubs. Andres Iniesta and Gianluigi Buffon played their last games for Barcelona and Juventus, and both won league titles in their final season. Arguably the best performance in their last game though was Fernando Torres. Coming off a Europa League win, in his final game Torres scored a brace at home. The game ended 2-2, but Torres performance and the tribute he got from the Atleti fans won’t be soon forgotten.
