The big news this week so far is that Unai Emery is set to become the new Arsenal manager. Arsenal did not waste time, as the season has just ended. Emery won two Europa Leagues at Sevilla, and won the Ligue 1 title this year in France with Paris-Saint Germain. Still, he did underperform in the Champions League with PSG, and there were many reports that he did not do a good job of policing the locker room at PSG. Tom Adams looks at the positives and negatives of Unai Emery going to Arsenal.
Argentina and Sergio Romero were hit with a tough blow this week as he sustained a knee injury that has ruled him out of the World Cup. It’s always devastating when a player gets injured right before the World Cup, and this time is no different. It’s a cruel blow for Romero. And for Argentina, a team that has attacking talent in abundance, but is frequently shaky at the back, this really hurts. Romero is a solid if unspectacular keeper, and his experience will be missed for Argentina.
I’m not sure why people are struggling to develop plaques and busts for soccer players that actually look like them. First their was the Ronaldo bust, and now this. Brandi Chastain was inducted into the Bay Area Sports hall of fame last weekend. The plaque that represents Chastain is, not great. It makes the Ronaldo bust look like a masterpiece. Besides being bad, the plaque doesn’t even really resemble Brandi Chastain. It does resemble other notable people though. Christian D’Andrea takes a look at what notable people the plaque actually looks like.
