With World Cup preparations underway, one of Los Angeles Football Club’s international contingent has already played in a pre-tournament tune-up.

LAFC defender/midfielder Omar Gaber started and played the full 90 for Egypt in their friendly against Kuwait on Friday in Kuwait City, which ended 1-1.

Kuwait took an early lead, through Fahad Al Ansari in the 7th minute, before Ayman Ashraf tied up the game for Egypt in the 81st minute. Gaber, who picked up a 27th-minute yellow card, was one of five Pharoahs players to play the full match.

Egypt have another friendly scheduled before the final World Cup roster is required to be submitted, taking place on Friday against another World Cup-bound team, Colombia, in Bergamo, Italy. While Gaber is not yet guaranteed a spot on Hector Cuper’s 23-man squad, he’s definitely in the running, and we’ll see if he makes the final cut for Russia 2018.
