The second 405 Derby of the 2018 season takes place Sunday evening, as Orange County SC head to Carson to take on LA Galaxy II.
The rivalry seems to not be much of a concern for Galaxy II, who are fully touting mascot Cozmo’s birthday party at the game. Maybe they don’t want to play up the SoCal clash, after Orange County took the first meeting, with a 3-0 win at Orange County Great Park on April 7.
That said, LA are actually in better form at the moment than OC. Mike Munoz’s group have finally started scoring and have three wins in their last five, and have only lost one in that span. OC, meanwhile, have been inconsistent lately, but with their last result being a loss maybe that means they’ll get something from this game?
On balance, Orange County have had a better season so far and have far, far more experience than Galaxy II, who are an extremely young team intended to provide prospects with competitive experience. But Galaxy II are playing pretty good, and should be considered dangerous for OC.
And Orange County could really use the result, as they’ve been slowly falling down the standings. It’s not a full-blown crisis by any means, but a win, in a rivalry game, too, would be a really good result to keep them in the contender reckoning.
Tale of the Tape:
Orange County SC: 20 points (6-4-2), 7th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: +11; Last five games: L-W-D-L-W
LA Galaxy II: 13 points (6-3-3), 12th place in Western Conference; Goal Difference: -3; Last five games: W-W-D-L-W
