On Tuesday, the final teams that have yet to play in the 2018 World Cup will finally get into action, and those who kicked off the tournament will begin matchday 2 of the tournament.

On the latter count, Russia will host Egypt in the day’s late game in Saint Petersburg. The host country opened their tournament in emphatic fashion, downing Saudi Arabia 5-0 in the opening game on Thursday. Egypt, meanwhile, fell 1-0 to Uruguay on a last-minute goal by Jose Maria Gimenez.

Egypt basically need to win this game to realistically keep hope alive they will advance out of the group stage. After Mohamed Salah didn’t play in the first game, it is widely hoped he’ll be healthy enough to play, and if Egypt are in good form, they should give Russia a real run for their money. The Russians, of course, will be full of confidence and have the backing of their nation.

There is a Los Angeles Football Club connection to this game, as Omar Gaber is awaiting his World Cup debut from Egypt head coach Hector Cuper. Gaber seems like a good bet to start on the bench against Russia, but hopefully he’ll get a chance to play some minutes on the world’s biggest stage.
