Vote: LAFC Man of the Match vs. Sacramento Republic

Which player made the most of the midweek fixture?

MLS: U.S. Open Cup-Los Angeles FC vs Sacramento Republic FC Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Football Club continue their strong run to their debut season, after defeating Sacramento Republic FC 3-2 on Wednesday in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16. It was a tense affair from the LAFC perspective, with the home side being down two separate occasions, missing a penalty, hitting the post three times, and only going ahead in the 89th minute. But a win is a win, especially in a knockout competition like the Open Cup.

Now, it’s time to decide which player was Man of the Match for LAFC. The nominees, as selected by Angels on Parade staff:

  • Eduard Atuesta: Believe it or not, the midfielder had two assists on the night, and while he struggled with his teammates in holding off Sacramento’s counterattack, he made up for it in the comeback.
  • Latif Blessing: The “King of the Open Cup” did his part once again, scoring the winner to keep his lifetime unbeaten streak alive in this competition.
  • Lee Nguyen: The midfielder’s best LAFC performance to date, with an early shot off the crossbar and a beautiful assist on LAFC’s second goal.
  • Diego Rossi: Had the most consistent 90 minutes of any player, and was rewarded with a goal and assist to complete the comeback for the hosts.
